ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Jennifer Fortuny. I relocated to North Carolina since 2014 after spending 20 years in Alaska. We are absolutely loving it here spending as much time outdoors at the lakes, beaches, and mountains as we can! I have been a mental health therapist since 1997, and although I am able to work with all age groups, my passion and the bulk of my experience lies with children, adolescents, and families. I have three young adult children of my own, and can relate with the stress of trying to juggle family, work, daily obligations, and stress. If you or your child are experiencing challenges, it is my goal to work together as a team in addressing strengths and barriers and in finding a peaceful balance. I am also a Duke University Certified Integrative Health Coach and am able to incorporate many aspects of overall health and wellness into therapy from a holistic viewpoint. I believe in a non-judgmental, nurturing, and caring approach to helping people feel better and be the best version of themselves!
I have over 25 years of experience working with children, teens, adults and families helping overcome anxiety, stress, mood disorders, trauma, and other life stressors. I am a certified Integrative Health Coach, and utilizes CBT, DBT and other mindfulness approaches in her counseling.
EXPERTISE
I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHCA) and a Certified Integrative Health Coach certified by Duke University. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University. I have over 25 years of experience working with all ages, specifically children and adolescents in community mental health, 24/7 crisis residential shelter, and private practice settings. I have experience with individual, group, and family therapy with a focus on trauma, depression, anxiety, school, family, peer issues, and delinquency. I also have experience with holistic health coaching.
COUNSELING APPROACHES
I utilize an eclectic approach in working towards overall health and wellness utilizing evidenced based models including but not limited to cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, art therapy, music, yoga, and holistic health. Holistic health is the concept of approaching overall wellness by treating the whole person, not just symptoms. Research indicates that those who adopt a holistic approach to healthcare are happier, healthier, and live longer. I believe a trusting relationship with individuals, children and parents is the foundation of healing and successful therapy and I work to build this trust at a pace that feels right to my clients. We are all experiencing an excessive amount of day to day stress and with the world changing around us due to COVID-19 we are all having to learn a new way of doing things. I would welcome the opportunity to join you in taking on these challenges together!
